{"id":5386,"date":"2022-03-07T13:53:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-07T13:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.powershiftafrica.org\/in-the-news\/adapt-or-die-african-countries-warned-on-climate-change"},"modified":"2026-08-26T14:34:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T14:34:09","slug":"adapt-or-die-african-countries-warned-on-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/powershiftafrica.org\/fr\/in-the-news\/adapt-or-die-african-countries-warned-on-climate-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Adapt or die: African countries warned on climate change"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/powershiftafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/rynwrnyh7jwp5xutk621cb70e53ddc_1646647092.jpg?format=original\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The impact of climate change is getting worse and time is of essence for action, a new report by African think-tank, Power Shift Africa warns.<br\/><br\/><\/strong>With the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change publishing its Working Group II report today highlighting the world\u2019s adaptation needs, the new report, reveals the true scale of the problem that some African countries are already facing.<br\/><br\/>&#8230;Commenting on the data, Mohamed Adow, Director of Power Shift Africa, said: \u201cThis report shows the deep injustice of the climate emergency.\u00a0 Some of the poorest countries in the world are having to use scarce resources to adapt to a crisis not of their making.\u201d<strong><br\/><br\/><\/strong>Africa he noted, despite only having tiny carbon footprints compared to those of the rich world, are suffering from droughts, storms and floods which are putting already stretched public finances under strain and limiting their ability to tackle other problems.<br\/><br\/>\u201cWe are facing an adaptation crisis and it is vital that countries heed these warnings and do much more to provide the finance needed to tackle these adaptation needs.\u00a0 It is simply not acceptable for the costs to fall on those people who are suffering the most while contributing the least to climate change.<br\/><br\/>\u201cThis year\u2019s COP27 climate summit will be on African soil, in Egypt.\u00a0 This needs to be the \u2018Adaptation COP\u2019 and address the historic imbalance which has seen adaptation neglected for far too long.<br\/><br\/>\u201cWe need to see massive levels of new funding committed at COP27 as well as a fund set up to deal with the permanent loss and damage caused by climate change.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The impact of climate change is getting worse and time is of essence for action, a new report by African think-tank, Power Shift Africa warns.
