{"id":5659,"date":"2022-03-07T14:01:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-07T14:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.powershiftafrica.org\/in-the-news\/in-africa-countries-are-spending-billions-to-cope-with-climate-crisis"},"modified":"2026-08-26T14:34:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T14:34:03","slug":"in-africa-countries-are-spending-billions-to-cope-with-climate-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/powershiftafrica.org\/fr\/in-the-news\/in-africa-countries-are-spending-billions-to-cope-with-climate-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"In Africa, countries are spending billions to cope with climate crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/powershiftafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/floods_1646644383.jpg?format=original\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>African countries, Kenya included, are spending a fortune to adapt to the effects of climate change, a new report has shown.<br\/><br\/><\/strong>The report, Adapt or Die, by Power Shift Africa shows the brunt African countries will bear despite contributing the least to the climate crisis.<br\/><br\/>It highlights\u00a0that Kenya will require substantive international climate finance, investment and partnerships to achieve its adaptation goals.<br\/><br\/>Other countries that were part of the study include Ethiopia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan and Togo.\u00a0<br\/><br\/>&#8230;Mohamed Adow, Power Shift Africa director, said in a statement that Africa is facing an adaptation crisis despite the reality of climate change being alive.<br\/><br\/>\u201cThis report shows the deep injustice of the climate emergency. \u00a0Some of the poorest countries in the world are having to use \u201cIt is vital that countries heed these warnings and do much more to provide the finance needed to tackle these adaptation needs. \u00a0It is simply not acceptable for the costs to fall on those people who are suffering the most while contributing the least to climate change,\u201d he added.<br\/><br\/>Mr Adow said this year\u2019s Conference of Parties, that will be held in Africa, expansively discusses adaptation especially for Africa.<br\/><br\/>\u201cThis needs to be the \u2018Adaptation COP\u2019 and address the historic imbalance which has seen adaptation neglected for far too long.
