{"id":5744,"date":"2022-02-14T14:08:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-14T14:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.powershiftafrica.org\/in-the-news\/president-kenyatta-takes-over-as-chair-of-au-climate-change-committee"},"modified":"2026-08-26T14:34:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T14:34:17","slug":"president-kenyatta-takes-over-as-chair-of-au-climate-change-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/powershiftafrica.org\/fr\/in-the-news\/president-kenyatta-takes-over-as-chair-of-au-climate-change-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"President Kenyatta takes over as chair of AU Climate Change committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has been named\u00a0the new chairperson for the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC).<br\/><br\/><\/strong>&#8230;Fatuma Hussein, Programme Manager at Power Shift Africa and one of the negotiators for COP, told The East African that since Africa did not reap big from COP26, having President Kenyatta at the top seat is a plus to push the African Climate agenda forward.<br\/>\u00a0<br\/>\u201cThis is an opportunity to rebalance the COP27 agenda with concrete and actionable steps to addressing the priorities and needs of Africa\u2026We must correct the failures of COP26 in Sharm El-Sheikh and make an international regime, one that is fit for all countries, North and South, rich and poor.\u00a0Africa, and CAHOSCC in particular, has played a crucial role in shaping the outcome and creating space for the correct priorities,\u201d she said.<br\/><br\/>\u201cWe can play our cards to ensure that COP delivers for Africa and the world.
