The Daily Climate Debate: Are cities the solution to climate change?

Do cities hold the key to preventing climate change?

…Mohamed Adow, Power Shift Africa Director, says: It’s important for cities to grow but in a low-carbon way. We need to do everything to help our cities become greener rather than end up to be big, polluting metropolises. They will need to be re-engineered. We need to change the way we have approached cities and their design.”

Is the UK a role model on net zero?

Mr Adow reacts to UK’s net zero strategy, saying: “What we want to see is what the UK is going to do today, tomorrow and every year to come to eliminate its major sources of emissions.”

How far away do you think the government is from being credible on climate?

Mr Adow says without the funds that will allow the government’s net zero strategy to be delivered he doesn’t think it will live up to the hype.
