World leaders petition US president to tackle climate crisis

One hundred and fifty world leaders signed a letter petitioning US  President Joe Biden to tackle climate crisis, following the new president’s commitment to climate action and returning the country to the Paris Agreement.

Power Shift Africa Director Mohamed Adow is among the leaders, campaigners and celebrities who appended their names on the letter, with renewed hope on building back better toward a new future.

“You can be remembered as the “climate president” who led humanity away from the cliff’s edge. You can transform the world’s energy systems from fossil fuels to clean energy, while also creating an abundance of jobs, reducing harmful pollution, and tackling economic, racial, and health inequality in the process,” the letter stated in part.

Other leaders who signed the letter include Kenya’s former Prime Minister and Africa Union’s High Representative for Infrastructure Development  Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga; Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos; United Nations Foundation CEO Elizabeth Cousens; actor and co-founder of Earth Alliance Leonardo DiCaprio; Celtel founder and chair of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation  Mo Ibrahim; chair of the United Kingdom Environment Agency Emma Howard Boyd and Christiana Figueres, co-founder of Global Optimism and former executive secretary of UNFCCC.
