Rwanda: Energy Development Plan to decarbonize the Economy

The report ‘Rwanda’: Energy Development Plan to decarbonise the Economy’ is the result of a joint study to develop comprehensive energy scenarios for Rwanda.

This work focuses on the development of a 100% Renewable Energy Pathways to provide data for future National Determined Contribution (NDC) report for the UNFCCC. It challenges the current government and private sector plan and provides new scientific input for future policies.

The findings show that secure and accessible 100% renewable energy systems in Africa are both achievable and economically desirable. Investment costs for grid improvements, renewable energy systems build out, and storage requirements to achieve secure 100% renewable energy systems in all three countries would be paid for multiple times over by the savings on substituted fuel costs.
