About the role
PSA, seeks to recruit a Fundraising Consultant to lead our efforts in securing vital financial support that will drive our climate-focused mission forward. This role is central to ensuring the sustainability and growth of PSA's programs, as it involves forging meaningful partnerships with donors and unlocking new funding opportunities. As a pivotal member of our team, the Fundraising Consultant will be responsible for not only attracting and retaining donor support but also for developing innovative approaches to diversify our funding sources. Your expertise in navigating the complex landscape of climate finance and your ability to communicate PSA’s vision compellingly will be key in connecting us with partners who share our commitment to environmental justice.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of PSA’s fundraising initiatives, drawing on your strategic insight to craft approaches that resonate with donors.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Fundraising Development
· Design, develop, and implement robust fundraising strategies that align with PSA’s mission and long-term goals, ensuring the sustainability and expansion of funding sources.
· Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies for individual, corporate, and foundation giving, tailored to different regions and cultural contexts.
· Conduct a comprehensive analysis of PSA’s current fundraising mechanisms, identifying gaps, and crafting strategic solutions to optimize and diversify funding streams
2. Donor Cultivation
· Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with donors, leveraging personal and professional networks to enhance PSA’s donor base.
· Develop tailored plans that ensure sustained engagement with existing donors,
· Engage with senior leadership and the Director to facilitate high-level donor relationships, including arranging meetings and presentations.
3. Proposal Development and Management
· Conduct research to identify potential funding opportunities from foundations, agencies, particularly those aligned with climate action and sustainable development.
· Craft compelling, targeted grant proposals and concept notes that align PSA’s programs with donor priorities, ensuring the achievement of specific fundraising targets.
4. Fundraising Event Planning
· Organize and oversee the execution of fundraising events, such as donor cultivation events, and online campaigns, ensuring these events meet fundraising goals.
· Identify and attend high-level networking events, conferences, and forums relevant to PSA’s mission, developing strategies for maximizing networking outcomes
· Collaborate with the communications team to develop and implement event marketing strategies, including digital campaigns and social media outreach.
· Manage PSA’s fundraising database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of all donor interactions, contributions, and reporting obligations
5. Institutional Knowledge and Capacity Building
· Develop and maintain a comprehensive institutional memory of PSA’s fundraising activities, ensuring that lessons learned, and best practices are documented and disseminated across the organization.
· Stay abreast of global fundraising trends, innovations, and best practices, particularly those related to climate action and environmental NGOs, and incorporate these into PSA’s fundraising strategies.
6. Reporting
· Provide detailed reports on the progress of all fundraising activities, including donor engagement and strategic goal attainment.
· Prepare and distribute quarterly reports; Ensure these reports include compelling stories, data, and visuals to enhance donor engagement and satisfaction.
· Conduct an annual review of PSA’s fundraising performance, assessing the success of various strategies, events, and donor relationships.
Qualifications:
i. Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as International Development or is highly desirable.
ii. A minimum of 7 years of experience in fundraising, with a proven track record of success in securing fundraising within the nonprofit sector.
iii. Extensive experience with proposal development, and donor cultivation, particularly within the environmental and climate sectors.
iv. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong focus on results and impact.
v. Strong knowledge of climate policy with a track record of working with stakeholders around climate policy development in Africa.
vi. Ability to analyze complex data and information related to climate finance policies and initiatives, ensuring that fundraising strategies are data-driven and aligned with global trends in climate action.
vii. Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex ideas to various stakeholders, including donors, partners, and internal teams
viii. Demonstrated capability to take ownership of projects and drive progress independently
ix. Skills to tailor communication strategies for different audiences, ensuring effective dissemination of climate finance concepts and initiatives, and optimizing donor engagement and retention.
x. Ability to maintain a high level of detail while keeping sight of the broader strategic objective.
xi. Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, the private sector, civil society, and local communities.
Additional Information about the role
This role will be principally in Nairobi, Kenya but you may be required to travel across the African region. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Kenya. While preference will be given to Kenyan applicants, we are open to considering candidates from other African countries. PSA will, however, not facilitate work visas for such candidates.
